What we would tell you in the studio
- Chunky white knit. We work this in a thick, textured stitch that gives the cardigan weight without turning rigid. The white yarn shows off the loop structure clearly and retains its natural give across a full day of wear.
- Lantern sleeve shape. The sleeves swell outward from a dropped shoulder before pulling in neatly at the wrist. Ribbing at the cuffs keeps the extra volume gathered so the cuffs do not slide down over your hands.
- Long open drape. An open front and an unshaped body let the knit fall straight down past the hip. The piece stays away from base layers, leaving space for collared shirts, light turtlenecks, or woven dresses underneath.
- Cold wash care. Hand wash or use a gentle cold cycle inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the open stitches. Reshape the body while damp and lay it flat to dry; hanging a heavy wet knit pulls the shoulders out of line.

- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
