We knit this open front cardigan in a fine, brushed yarn that feels soft against bare skin. The body hangs loose and straight away from the torso, finished with long sleeves and two front patch pockets. It layers easily over light tees or under heavier winter coats.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Open front cut. The body is cut wide and hangs open without buttons or closures. It drops straight down from the shoulders, staying away from the waist and landing around the lower hip.
- Fine gauge yarn. We chose a lightweight brushed yarn with a soft hand that stays smooth through a full day of wear. The knit packs small and resists creasing inside a bag.
- Patch pockets. Two flat patch pockets are knitted directly onto the lower front panels. They sit deep enough to hold keys or a small phone without pulling the front hem out of line.
- Washing and care. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle to protect the brushed finish. Lay the cardigan flat on a towel to dry so the open fronts keep their original length.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
