What we would tell you in the studio
- Chunky body knit. The thick gauge gives this piece structure and weight without feeling stiff. It hangs straight down from the shoulders, creating clean lines that rest away from the waist and hips.
- Mock neck collar. We shaped the neckline to stand on its own without folding over. The wide rib keeps its shape against the throat, blocking out cold air while sitting loose enough for easy wear.
- Extended ribbed cuffs. Dropped shoulders lead into batwing sleeves that taper into deep ribbing running from the wrist toward the elbow. This tight band anchors the volume of the upper arm in place.
- Care and wash. Wash on a gentle cycle in cold water and reshape while damp. Always lay flat on a towel to dry, as hanging a wet chunky knit will stretch the shoulders and hem.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
