What we would tell you in the studio

  • Striped knit gauge. Horizontal stripes run through both pieces, knitted from a smooth yarn that holds clean lines across the body. The fabric has natural four-way stretch that recovers its shape as you move.
  • Roomy top cut. The top features dropped shoulders and long sleeves that taper lightly at the wrist. The body is cut wide, letting the fabric hang straight down without clinging at the sides.
  • Long lower hem. The matching bottoms are cut with the same easy volume as the top. The hem lands long past the knee, resting near the ankle for full coverage throughout the day.
  • Cold water wash. Wash both pieces together on a gentle cold cycle to keep the blue stripes matching across wear. Lay flat on a dry towel to dry so the knit does not pull or warp.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
