What we would tell you in the studio

  • Roomy crewneck top. The top has a dropped shoulder and a wide body that sits loose over a base layer. Long sleeves finish in a clean cuff, and the round crew collar lies flat against the collarbone without binding.
  • Straight bottom hem. The trousers match the top in gauge and stripe spacing. They fall straight down from an elasticated waist to land at the ankle, giving the legs plenty of room to move as you walk.
  • Dark grey yarn. We run contrasting light and deep tones through the horizontal stripe pattern to break up the surface. The knit carries four-way give, so the fabric stretches across the shoulders and knees, then snaps back.
  • Care for the set. Wash both pieces together in cool water on a gentle cycle so the colors age at the same pace. Lay them flat to dry on a towel to keep the waistband and hems from stretching out.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
