What we would tell you in the studio

  • Knit and drape. The yarn has a pliable stretch that gives the slouchy body its relaxed shape. It hangs straight down without clinging, moving easily as you walk or sit.
  • Neckline and front. A wide V neck leads down into the open front. We kept the band clean and flat so the panels rest naturally against your base layers without bunching.
  • Long sleeves. The sleeves are cut long with dropped shoulder seams to maintain the oversized fit through the arms. Ribbed cuffs keep the extra length gathered neatly at the wrists.
  • Yarn care. Hand wash in cold water or use professional dry cleaning to protect the knit structure. Reshape the damp cardigan and lay it flat to dry instead of hanging.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
