What we would tell you in the studio

  • Chunky gauge knit. The thick knit gives this layer weight and structure while keeping enough flexibility to move easily. The brown yarn creates a solid, uniform surface across the entire back panel and sleeves.
  • Open front line. The front stays open down to the hem, framing whatever you layer underneath. Because we knitted the bands flat, the edges hang straight instead of rolling inward.
  • Roomy body cut. We shaped the body with extra width through the chest and waist so it fits over thick shirts. The fabric drops straight down and does not cling anywhere.
  • Care and drying. Wash this knit by hand in cold water or send it for dry cleaning. Squeeze out excess water with a towel and lay it flat to dry so the heavy stitches keep their shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
