What we would tell you in the studio

  • Henley collar construction. The top opens with a short button placket that lets the neckline sit open or closed. A small patch pocket sits on the chest, balancing the clean crew band at the neck.
  • Roomy trousers with pockets. We cut the pants with a wide, easy leg that drops straight from the waist down to the hem. Deep side pockets sit flat along the seams without adding bulk to the hip.
  • Brushed fleece knit. The yarn has a lightly brushed surface that traps air for warmth without weight. It carries plenty of give, so the knit stretches as you move and settles back without bagging out.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash both pieces together in cold water to keep the blue tone consistent across top and bottom. Tumble dry on low heat or hang on a line out of direct sunlight.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
