What we would tell you in the studio
- Neck and drape. The open neckline sits wide across the collarbone, easing into a soft drape through the chest and torso. The cut stays loose all the way down.
- Batwing sleeve construction. Wide armholes drop low toward the waist, giving the sleeves substantial volume before they narrow into ribbing at the forearm and wrist.
- Asymmetrical hem. The lower edge falls unevenly around the hips, breaking up the straight line of a standard pullover hem without pulling tight.
- Washing and shape. Wash by hand in cold water or dry clean to protect the yarn hand. Press out excess moisture with a towel and dry flat.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
