Womens Batwing Oversized Sweaters Asymmetrical Dressy Casual Tops
We knit this pullover with an open neckline and an off-center lower edge. The body is cut wide through the chest, then drops into tapered long sleeves. It falls away from the torso, hanging lower on one side to settle past the hip. This piece is worked in deep army green yarn.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Asymmetrical hem cut. The hemline angles downward instead of running straight across, dipping toward one side to break the horizontal line. That diagonal drop allows the loose body room to shift naturally as you walk, sitting loosely past the hip.
- Open draped neckline. We finished the collar with a relaxed, broad opening that settles softly against the collarbones. It rests flat without gripping the throat, functioning between a soft boat neck and an easy cowl depending on how you arrange the fold.
- Batwing sleeve taper. The sleeves start deep on the torso without a standard armhole seam, creating a batwing shape that narrows sharply toward the wrists. Ribbed cuffs secure the lower arm so the extra volume stays through the chest and shoulders.
- Gentle knit care. Hand wash this sweater in cool water using a mild wool soap. Press out excess water between clean bath towels rather than wringing the yarn. Lay the knit flat on a drying rack to keep the asymmetrical shape from stretching out.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
