What we would tell you in the studio
- Wide cowl neck. The generous collar sits loose around the base of the neck like a soft wrap. It rests flat against the collarbone without clinging or pulling at the throat.
- Batwing sleeve construction. Deep armholes give the upper sleeve plenty of volume before the knit gathers in close along the lower arm. This keeps the wide shape tidy around the wrists.
- Asymmetrical tunic hem. The lower edge angles across the hips rather than cutting straight across. That diagonal line adds movement to the heavier knit body and leaves room for base layers beneath.
- Washing and care. Hand wash in cold water or dry clean to protect the yarn structure. Squeeze out excess moisture without wringing the knit, then reshape and dry flat on a towel.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
