What we would tell you in the studio
- Wide cowl collar. The neckline folds over in a relaxed cowl that sits broad across the shoulders without clinging to the throat. You can pull it slightly off center or let it gather naturally as an open collar.
- Batwing sleeve construction. Deep underarm seams drop low along the body to create the batwing shape. Ribbing along the lower sleeves gathers the knit closer to the wrist so the cuffs stay put when pushed up.
- Asymmetrical tunic hem. Instead of a level finish, we cut the hem on a steady diagonal line that clears one hip and drops lower on the other side. The uneven edge breaks up the substantial knit volume.
- Washing and flat drying. Hand wash this piece in cool water or select a dedicated dry clean cycle. Press out excess water between clean bath towels rather than wringing it, then lay the knit flat to preserve the diagonal lines.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
