What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck top. The top is cut straight through the body with a banded crew neckline that sits flat against the collarbone. Long sleeves finish in narrow self-cuffs that stay inside sweater wrists.
  • Elastic legging bottom. The bottoms sit on an elasticated waistband and taper straight through the leg. The knit has enough recovery to hold its line at the knee without bagging during movement.
  • Fine gauge knit. We use a lightweight, smooth synthetic yarn with plenty of stretch. The fabric slides easily beneath thick wool sweaters, denim, or ski trousers without catching or adding bulk.
  • Care and wash. Machine wash in cold water on a gentle cycle with similar reds to protect the dye. Lay both pieces flat to dry to keep the stretch recovery intact over time.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
