What we would tell you in the studio
- Open band construction. A wide knit band frames the open front, dropping straight from the back neck down to the hem. It stays open over base layers without pulling forward or curling inward at the edges.
- Fine gauge drape. The knit is smooth and compact, giving it weight without thick bulk. It folds down flat into a bag and shakes out with very few fold lines when unpacked.
- Patch pocket placement. Two deep square pockets are set flat into the lower front panels at hip height. The knit is reinforced along the top pocket rim so the opening stays straight with daily use.
- Care and shape. Wash on a gentle cycle in cold water and lay it flat on a drying rack to keep the length stable. Hanging a wet fine knit will stretch the shoulder seam downward.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
