What we would tell you in the studio
- Wide off shoulder neckline. The knit folds over at the top to rest past the collarbone. It stays in place through the stretch of the rib structure, leaving the neck and shoulders clear.
- Close rib body. A fine rib stitch runs the length of the torso and down the long sleeves. The knit pulls in naturally to sit near the skin without heavy bulk.
- Cropped lower hem. We ended the body with a short hem that rests near the high waistband of trousers or skirts. The edge is self-finished so it lies flat against other layers.
- Gentle knit care. Hand wash this piece in cold water to keep the ribbing elastic. Press out water with a towel and dry it flat instead of hanging, which can stretch the neck band.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
