What we would tell you in the studio
- Wide open neckline. The neck opening is broad and soft, designed to rest off the shoulder without pulling tight across the back. It holds its place through the natural elasticity of the ribbed stitch.
- Fitted ribbed body. A close vertical rib runs the length of the torso. The knit stretches easily over the skin and snaps back, keeping a clean line without bunching when tucked into trousers.
- Long straight sleeve. The sleeves are knitted long to reach the knuckles, finished with a neat self-edge at the wrist. They layer comfortably under heavier wool coats or jackets without adding bulk.
- Washing and care. Hand wash in cold water using a mild wool soap to protect the yarn softness. Press excess water out in a dry towel and lay the sweater flat to dry.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
