What we would tell you in the studio
- V-neck and button placket. The front closes with faux tortoiseshell buttons that contrast against the white knit. Ribbed bands run along the neckline and down the placket to keep the opening flat against the chest through repeated buttoning.
- Armhole shape. We cut the armholes close enough to cover an undergarment while keeping movement easy. The sleeveless edge is bound neatly so it holds its shape whether worn alone or pulled over a long-sleeved shirt.
- Straight cropped hem. The body drops straight without tapering and stops at the hipbone. Wide ribbing anchors the bottom edge so the vest sits squarely over trousers, skirts, or untucked base layers.
- Washing and flat drying. Wash by hand in cold water or run a gentle machine cycle using a mesh bag. Skip the tumble dryer and lay the vest flat on a towel so the ribbed edges keep their shape.

Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
