What we would tell you in the studio

  • Open crochet stitch. The openwork stitch creates a patterned grid with plenty of space between stitches. It gives the fabric a light feel in warm weather and holds its structure without clinging.
  • V-neck and armholes. The open V-neck sits low and wide at the collarbone. Cleanly finished armholes leave plenty of room through the shoulder, so straps beneath stay flat.
  • Roomy body. We cut the torso with a wide, straight drape that falls clear of the midsection down to the hip line. It layers over fitted tank tops, bandeau tops, or swimsuits.
  • Yarn care. Hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent and press the water out gently in a towel. Lay it flat to dry so the open crochet stitches do not stretch out of shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
