What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neckline and trim. The neck is a neat round crew with contrast tipping that matches the sleeve cuffs. It lies flat against the collarbone without pulling or gaping.
  • Drop shoulder sleeve. We dropped the armholes low on the sweater for extra room through the chest. The long sleeves taper slightly toward the ribbed cuffs.
  • Wide leg trouser cut. Knitted with a straightforward wide leg that falls straight from the elastic waist to the hem. The knit hangs away from the leg as you walk.
  • Washing and flat drying. Hand wash in cold water or run on a gentle machine cycle with mild soap. Press out excess water with a towel and lay both pieces flat to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
