Women Dresses Spring Summer

We knit this dress in a clear red with a straight column cut that drops past the knee. The open neckline sits wide across the collarbone, framed by full-length sleeves that finish cleanly at the wrist. A soft interior lining keeps the lighter gauge knit opaque through the skirt.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Open neckline framing. The wide neckline leaves the neck and collarbones open while keeping its shape through repeated wear. It balances the coverage of the long sleeves without needing extra fastenings.
  • Straight column hem. The skirt drops in a straight line down toward the ankle. It falls cleanly without clinging through the hips or widening out at the bottom edge.
  • Long sleeve construction. We shaped the long sleeves to follow the arm down to a neat cuff. The knit stretches easily over the elbows and settles back into place.
  • Lining and care. A lightweight inner lining sits smooth against the skin under the red knit. Machine wash inside a mesh laundry bag on a gentle cycle, then line dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
