We knit this two piece lounge set from a smooth rayon-blend yarn with gentle give. The top has a plain round crew neckline and long sleeves, cut straight through the torso to land at the hip. Below, the trousers fall wide and clean to the hem.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck top cut. The pullover sits straight through the body without clinging, finished with a classic round neck and full-length sleeves. It covers the waistband and rests near the hip line.
  • Wide leg trousers. We shaped the pants with a wide leg cut that drops straight from the hip down. An elasticated waistband with an adjustable drawstring keeps the waist seated where you place it.
  • Rayon blend yarn. The knit is smooth and lightweight against bare skin, giving the trousers a clean vertical hang while remaining soft. Both pieces share the same yarn and dye lot for an exact match.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash cold inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the knit surface from snagging. Tumble dry on a low heat setting, or lay both pieces flat on a towel.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
