What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck top cut. The long-sleeve top follows a straight line through the body, sitting off the skin without billowing. Ribbed bands finish the plain round neckline, the cuffs, and the lower hem to keep the edges flat.
  • Wide trouser leg. The trousers hang straight from the waist down to a wide, ungathered hem. An enclosed elastic waistband stays flat against the waist, anchored with an adjustable drawcord knitted in the same coffee yarn.
  • Yarn and drape. Our rayon blend yarn produces a fine-gauge knit that stays soft against bare skin. It carries enough weight to let the trouser legs drop cleanly, while holding its shape across hours of sitting.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash the set in cold water inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the knit surface from friction. Tumble dry on low heat, or lay both pieces flat to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
