What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck top cut. The top is built with a simple crew neckline and straight long sleeves. It sits cleanly on the shoulders and finishes near the hip without tight banding, so the fabric falls straight down.
  • Drawstring knit trousers. We gave the bottoms an elastic waistband threaded with a matching tie. The legs drop wide and loose to the hem, holding enough weight to keep their line as you walk.
  • Smooth rayon yarn. The blue yarn is spun with a fine, even surface that feels cool and soft on bare skin. It stretches easily across the body and snaps back without bagging out at the knees or elbows.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash cold inside a mesh laundry bag to keep the knit from catching. Tumble dry on low heat, or lay both pieces flat on a dry towel to preserve the stitch shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
