What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neckline and sleeves. The round collar sits flat against the collarbone without pulling tight. Long sleeves finish with simple self-start edges that push up easily when you work with your hands.
  • Wide leg trouser cut. The trousers fall straight from the hips down to the hem. A wide elastic waistband holds its place with an integrated drawstring so you can adjust the tension across the waist.
  • Rayon blend yarn. We chose a rayon blend yarn for a soft surface and fluid drape. The knit has enough weight to hang straight without feeling heavy when worn through spring or autumn.
  • Laundering the set. Wash both pieces together in cold water inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the knit surface. Tumble dry on low heat or lay flat on a towel so the trousers keep their length.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
