What we would tell you in the studio

  • Ribbed knit texture. The rib runs vertically down both pieces, giving the knit its crosswise stretch and a soft, supple hand against bare skin. It recovers its shape well after sitting or sleeping.
  • Cut and proportions. A plain round crew sits flat at the base of the neck. The long sleeves fall straight to the wrist, while the hem lands low around the hips to keep the top loose and uncinched.
  • Single dye lot white. Knitting the top and bottoms together ensures the white yarn matches across both pieces. The shade is a clear, solid white that works on its own or layered under heavier robes and cardigans.
  • Washing and shape care. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, or wash by hand. Reshape the pieces while damp and lay them flat on a towel to dry so the ribbed knit does not stretch out.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
