What we would tell you in the studio
- Merino blend yarn. The blend uses fine merino wool to keep the fabric smooth against bare skin. It gives light warmth across cooler days while keeping the overall layer thin enough to slip under winter coats and heavier jackets without bunching.
- Standing mock neck. The collar is knitted in a tidy vertical rib that sits upright on the neck. It stays in place without folding over or pulling tight, keeping out drafts along the collarbone while retaining its structure across repeated wear.
- Roomy straight cut. We gave this piece a relaxed body that falls straight down from the shoulders and rests away from the torso. Long sleeves finish in ribbed cuffs that hold their position when you push them up along the forearm.
- Washing and care. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle inside a mesh laundry bag, or hand wash in cool water. Reshape the damp knit and lay it flat on a dry towel to dry. Avoid the tumble dryer so the wool blend maintains its shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
