What we would tell you in the studio
- Chunky rib knit. We use a heavy gauge yarn blended with stretch to create a thick, plush fabric. The heather red yarn mixes deeper and lighter tones throughout the stitchwork, giving the cardigan visual depth.
- High mock neck. Fastening the top buttons pulls the collar up into a stand neck that covers the throat. Left undone, the front falls back into wide lapels that sit flat over a collared shirt or tee.
- Roomy straight cut. The body hangs straight from dropped shoulders and lands around the hip line. Because the cut is loose, the knit slides over long-sleeve shirts or light knit tops without binding under the arms.
- Cold water wash. Hand wash this cardigan in cold water to keep the chunky knit from stretching out of shape. Press out excess water in a clean towel and dry it flat on a drying rack.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
