We knit this cardigan in a heavy gauge yarn with plenty of natural give. The body is cut wide and loose, hanging straight down past the hips. You can button the front up completely to create a standing mock neck, or leave the placket open over a light base layer.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Chunky rib knit. The heavy yarn gives this layer substantial weight and stretch. It holds a distinct stitch definition that retains its shape across repeated wear, while the camel shade matches easily with dark denim or tailored trousers.
- Convertible mock neckline. Fastening the top buttons creates a high standing collar that protects against a chill. Left unfastened, the collar folds back into a relaxed open lapel that sits flat across your collarbones.
- Roomy straight cut. We dropped the shoulder seams and widened the chest so the fabric hangs clear of the body. The hem reaches down around the thigh, providing full coverage over slip dresses or slim trousers without pulling tight.
- Cold water care. Hand wash this cardigan in cold water with mild detergent to preserve the yarn hand. Squeeze out excess water between dry towels and lay the knit flat to dry so the heavy weight does not distort the ribs.

Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
