We knit this roomy sweater dress in a pale, creamy light apricot yarn with a soft hand. The cut hangs straight and away from the torso, landing around the knee or upper leg. A tall turtleneck stands up around the neck for extra cold-weather coverage.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Foldover turtleneck collar. The high neck is knitted with soft ribbed tension so it holds its shape around the collar without pressing hard against the throat. You can turn it over once or let it gather loosely on its own.
- Batwing sleeve shape. We shaped the long sleeves with a low, easy armhole that tapers down toward the wrist. Ribbing along the cuffs keeps the fabric gathered neatly in place when pushed up the forearm.
- Vented lower hem. The lower edge is finished with side slits that let the knit move freely as you walk or sit down. It hangs straight without clinging to layers worn underneath, such as tights or slim denim.
- Washing and yarn care. Wash on a gentle cycle in cold water using a mesh laundry bag, or hand wash in a basin. Reshape the dress while damp and lay it flat to dry instead of using a tumble dryer.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
