Womens Spring Short Sleeve Sweater Shirts Tops Summer

We knit this warm-weather top from a soft cotton yarn in alternating bands of apricot and navy. The body sits wide and hangs away from your torso, ending at a shorter hem that meets high-waisted skirts or knit trousers without tucking. Short sleeves and a plain round crew neck keep the lines simple.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Striped cotton knit. The cotton yarn feels light and smooth against bare skin. We knit the horizontal bands in a balanced gauge that holds its squared shape without stiffening or feeling heavy on warm afternoons.
  • Neckline and pocket. A simple banded crew neck sits flat against the collarbone. We added a single knit patch pocket at the left chest, breaking the stripe pattern with a small shift in texture.
  • Roomy cropped cut. The body is cut wide through the waist and drops straight down to a cropped lower edge. It leaves plenty of space for airflow and rests neatly above wide knit palazzo pants.
  • Washing and shape care. Hand wash in cold water or run on a gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. Reshape the body while damp and dry flat on a towel so the cotton does not stretch out of square.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
