Womens Spring Short Sleeve Sweater Shirts Tops Summer

We knit this top in a fine gauge cotton yarn with alternating blue and black horizontal stripes. The cut sits roomy through the torso and finishes at a cropped hem. It pairs easily with high-waisted knit skirts and wide-leg trousers.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck and pocket. A simple round crewneck anchors the top, bound with tight ribbing that lies flat against the collarbone. We added a single patch pocket on the chest, knitted into the stripe pattern to break up the front.
  • Roomy cropped cut. The body is cut wide and loose, hanging straight down from dropped shoulders. Because the hem lands short, it meets high-rise knit trousers without bunching or adding bulk around the waist.
  • Short sleeve ribbing. The short sleeves are cut wide at the armhole and finish with narrow rib trims. This structure keeps the sleeve open and lets air pass through on warmer days.
  • Washing and shape care. Hand wash in cold water with a gentle detergent, or use a mesh bag on a delicate machine cycle. Lay the sweater flat across a drying rack so the cotton knit keeps its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
