Womens Spring Short Sleeve Sweater Shirts Tops Summer

We knit this top from soft cotton yarn with clean horizontal striping in Marble Grey. The cut hangs loose and away from the torso, ending at a shorter hem that sits well above high-waisted knit skirts and wide-leg trousers. A set-in chest pocket breaks up the front pattern.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck and pocket. The round neckline is trimmed with a low rib band that sits flat against the collarbone. On the left chest, we placed a small square pocket knitted in the same stripe sequence.
  • Sleeve and cut. Short sleeves fall straight from the shoulder with light ribbing at the cuff. The body is cut wide through the waist, so the cotton fabric drapes loosely rather than pulling across the chest.
  • Cropped lower hem. A ribbed band finishes the hem, which sits higher than our standard pullovers. The shorter length clears the waistband of trousers without adding bulk around the hips.
  • Washing cotton knits. Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle or by hand with a mild soap. Reshape the body while damp and lay it flat on a clean towel out of direct sunlight.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
