What we would tell you in the studio
- V-neck and button front. The deep v-neckline drops into a clean buttoned placket. You can fasten it all the way down or leave the lower edge open over trousers.
- Roomy straight cut. We gave this a wide body that hangs away from the waist without pulling tight. Side slits at the hip hem let the fabric shift freely when you sit or walk.
- Ribbed long sleeves. Full-length sleeves balance the open front of the vest cut. The knit carries enough stretch to pull the cuffs up onto the forearms without losing shape.
- Washing and care. Hand wash in cool water or dry clean to keep the grey tone even across the knit. Lay it flat on a dry towel to dry instead of hanging.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
