What we would tell you in the studio
- Ribbed knit texture. Vertical ribbing gives the fabric its natural stretch and weight. The knit hangs straight down without clinging, keeping its shape as you move through the day.
- V-neck and button front. The open v-neck sits low enough to show a collared shirt or crew tee underneath. Tonal buttons run the length of the front placket so you can adjust how open it sits.
- Cap shoulder and side slits. The shoulder extends slightly into a cap sleeve with a clean finished edge. Deep side slits at the lower hem give the longer cut room to move when walking or sitting.
- Care and maintenance. Wash by hand in cool water with a mild knit detergent. Press the water out gently with a towel rather than wringing, then dry the vest flat on a rack.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
