What we would tell you in the studio
- Ribbed V-neck. The open neckline is finished with a wide rib that holds its shape without pulling tight. It leaves plenty of clearance for a collared shirt or a basic crew tee underneath.
- Roomy straight cut. We cut the body wide so the fabric drops straight down rather than clinging. Side slits at the bottom hem give the knit room to move when you sit or walk.
- Sleeveless shoulder line. The shoulder drops slightly past the edge of the frame, creating a capped line along the upper arm. The armholes are cut deep enough to layer over thick cotton sleeves.
- Care and washing. Wash this piece by hand in cool water or use dry cleaning to keep the red dye clear. Reshape the knit while damp and lay it flat on a dry towel.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
