What we would tell you in the studio

  • Buttoned V-neck top. Four front buttons set the depth of the open neck. The cut drops wide through the chest and short sleeves, leaving room for air and hanging away from the torso down to a straight hem.
  • Drawcord waist shorts. The shorts pull on with a gathered elastic band and an adjustable cord. We knitted two deep side pockets into the seams and kept the leg short so it sits balanced under the roomy top.
  • Cotton yarn feel. The yarn is spun with a high cotton content for warm weather. It feels soft and dry against bare skin, with a light gauge that drapes naturally rather than clinging when temperatures rise.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash this set on a gentle cycle in cold water with like darks, or dry clean. Lay both pieces flat on a towel to dry so the knit retains its shape without stretching.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
