What we would tell you in the studio
- Collar and placket. A flat knit polo collar leads down into an extended row of buttons. Leave the neck unfastened into a deep V or button it high depending on what sits underneath.
- Straight knit body. The straight cut hangs away from the waist and torso. Because the yarn carries built-in stretch, the sweater holds its shape over hours of wear without pulling tight across the back.
- Ribbed cuffs and hem. Fine ribbing runs along the wrist cuffs and the lower hem. The wrist trim keeps the long sleeves in place, while the base hem rests flat against trousers or skirts.
- Yarn care. Wash this knit in cool water on a gentle cycle, preferably inside a mesh laundry bag. Lay it flat on a dry towel to dry so the collar and hem stay square.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
