Women's Flowy Casual Mini Dresses

We cut this dress short with a straight fall through the body and a soft inner lining. The open v-neck meets a stretchy smocked bodice that holds close before releasing into a relaxed skirt. Flutter sleeves add volume up top while side pockets stay tucked into the seams. Apricot brings a warm, light tone to the fine weave.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Neckline and smocking. The v-neckline opens the collar and leads down to a smocked panel. This section expands and recovers with your movement, keeping the chest area fitted while the lower half stays free.
  • Flutter sleeve volume. Short sleeves cut with a flutter shape sit loose around the shoulder and upper arm. The light fabric moves easily without pulling at the underarm seam.
  • Short straight hem. The skirt drops straight from the high waist band and finishes well above the knee. It hangs clear of the legs, lined underneath so the light apricot colour remains fully opaque.
  • Fabric and laundering. Woven from light yarns with an added lining for structure and coverage. Machine wash in cold water on a gentle cycle, then hang or lay flat to dry so the smocking keeps its stretch.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
