What we would tell you in the studio
- Dropped shoulder cut. The shoulder seams sit low on the arm to give the chest and upper back plenty of room. This keeps the long sleeves loose over shirts or light pullovers without bunching up under the arms.
- Open front panels. The front edges hang straight without buttons or hardware to weigh down the knit. Two inset pockets sit flat against the lower panels, deep enough for a phone or a set of keys.
- Ash Grey yarn. We selected an Ash Grey yarn that blends soft pale grey and charcoal fibres for a heathered finish. The mid-weight gauge gives the fabric substance while letting it drape freely as you move.
- Washing and drying. Hand wash in cool water or use a gentle machine cycle with mild soap. Lay the cardigan flat on a dry towel to dry so the open knit panels keep their square shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
