What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck and shoulder buttons. The neckline is finished as a classic round crew that lies flat. We set small button details along the shoulder seam to break up the smooth knit surface without adding weight.
  • Lightweight stretch yarn. Spun with added stretch, the fine-gauge yarn produces a smooth fabric with give. It moves with you through the day and recovers its shape after hours of wear.
  • Straight cut and cropped hem. The body falls straight from the underarm rather than tapering in. Because the hem is cut short, it meets the waistband of mid or high-rise bottoms without bunching up.
  • Care and maintenance. Machine wash cold inside out on a gentle cycle to protect the buttons. Lay the piece flat on a drying rack to keep the fine knit from stretching out of shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
