What we would tell you in the studio

  • Roomy top cut. The crew-neck top hangs loose through the body and settles around the hip. Raglan sleeves leave generous room under the arms, finished with flat ribbed cuffs that keep their shape through repeated wear.
  • Pull-on trousers. We shaped the trousers with an elastic waistband that sits flat without drawstrings or hardware. The legs run wide from the hip down, giving the knit room to drape straight when you walk.
  • Contrast piping detail. A line of pale piping runs along the outside seams of the top and down the trouser legs. It defines the edges of the dark yarn without adding bulk or stiffness to the drape.
  • Cold water care. Wash both pieces together on a gentle cold cycle using mild liquid detergent. Lay the top and trousers flat on towels to dry so the knit does not stretch under its own wet weight.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
