What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck and raglan cut. The top features a plain round crew neckline that sits flat against the collarbone. Raglan seams slope down into short sleeves, giving the upper body plenty of room without pulling across the shoulders.
  • Wide trousers with elastic waist. The trousers drop straight down from an elastic waistband into a wide leg. The knit hangs away from the leg, holding enough weight to drape cleanly without clinging around the knees or ankles.
  • Contrast piping details. Both the top and trousers are finished with contrast piping running along the outer seams and hems. This edge binding frames the dusty blue knit and keeps the joins lying flat through regular wear.
  • Washing and flat drying. Wash by hand or use a cold gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. Do not use bleach. Lay both pieces flat on a clean towel to dry so the knit does not stretch out of shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
