What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck and cut. The top is knitted with a roomy body that hangs away from the torso rather than clinging. A ribbed crew neck holds its circular shape through days of wear and repeated washing.
  • Long sleeve balance. Full length sleeves balance the cropped hem of the top and the open leg of the shorts. The cuffs are finished cleanly so they push up the forearm easily if you want them higher.
  • Drawstring knit shorts. The matching shorts use a wide waistband with an integrated drawstring so you can adjust the tension directly. The legs fall loose around the thigh to allow easy movement throughout the day.
  • Washing the pair. Machine wash the top and shorts together in cold water with similar colors to keep the brown shade uniform across both pieces. Tumble dry on a low heat setting to protect the knit stretch.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
