What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck and cropped hem. The top is built with a simple rounded neckline and a relaxed torso that sits away from the skin. The hem lands high, meeting the top edge of the matching shorts.
  • Full length sleeves. Long sleeves balance the cut of the shorts. The fabric drops softly past the wrist and pushes up easily when you want the forearms bare.
  • Adjustable knit shorts. The shorts are knitted from the exact same pink dye lot as the top. An adjustable cord through the waistband lets you set the waist tension where you want it.
  • Washing and drying. Machine wash in cold water with similar light tones. Lay both pieces flat on a rack or tumble on low heat to keep the knit shape true.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
