What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck top. The top is cut with a roomy body and standard long sleeves. A ribbed round neckline keeps its shape through repeated wear, and the hem rests comfortably around the hip.
  • Adjustable knit trousers. The matching trousers are knitted with a wide, flexible waistband anchored by a self-fabric drawstring. Inset side pockets sit flat against the leg without pulling the fabric out of line.
  • Single dye lot. Knitting the top and trousers together ensures the chocolate brown shade matches across both garments. The yarn has a smooth, soft surface that feels comfortable directly over bare skin.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle using mild detergent. Lay both pieces flat on a clean towel to dry so the knit retains its original length and waistband stretch.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
