What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck top cut. The long sleeve top is knitted with a roomy body that sits away from the torso. Plain ribbed bands finish the round neck, wrists, and hem to keep the shape neat.
  • Drawstring waist trousers. We shaped the trousers with a wide ribbed waistband and an adjustable tie. The legs drop straight down, with side pockets knit flush against the hip line.
  • Yarn hand and weight. The wine yarn has a soft, smooth face with medium weight that drapes easily without feeling heavy. It works well indoors or under a heavier coat when traveling.
  • Laundering and drying. Wash the set in cold water on a gentle cycle to protect the knitted structure. Reshape both pieces and lay them flat on a towel to dry rather than hanging.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
