What we would tell you in the studio
- High neck structure. The neck stands upright as a mock collar, giving the open front a clean vertical line from top to bottom. It stays in place over collared shirts or bare skin without flopping open.
- Straight open front. We left off buttons and zippers so the front panels fall naturally. Two inset side pockets sit flat against the body when empty and carry small items without pulling the knit out of line.
- Dense sweater gauge. The knit uses a compact viscose blend with enough stretch to move and enough weight to block a breeze. It hangs straight down under its own yarn mass rather than clinging to layers beneath.
- Cold water care. Dry cleaning preserves the surface longest. If you wash it by hand, use cold water and mild soap, press the water out in a towel, and dry the piece flat so the long hem does not stretch.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
