What we would tell you in the studio

  • V-neck and button front. The top opens with a row of secure buttons down the front placket. We shaped the neckline into a steady V that sits flat across the collarbone without pulling or gaping when you move.
  • Trouser waist and pockets. The straight-leg trousers use a wide elastic waistband threaded with an adjustable drawstring. Deep side pockets sit along the seam line, holding small daily items without pulling down the knit.
  • Yarn hand and drape. A fine-gauge knit gives the fabric a fluid drape and light stretch across both pieces. The coral shade has a soft, matte finish that feels smooth directly against bare skin.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle to keep the button band and knit stitches even. Lay both pieces flat on a drying rack so the waistband and cuffs hold their shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
