What we would tell you in the studio

  • Buttoned V-neck top. The front buttons through from the V-neck to the hem, giving you an open neckline that sits flat. Long sleeves finish with neat cuffs, while the body hangs straight without pulling across the shoulders or clinging.
  • Drawstring lounge trousers. We gave the trousers a wide elastic band with an integrated drawstring so they sit where you place them. Straight legs fall freely to the hem, and inset side pockets hold small essentials while you walk around the house.
  • Soft fine-gauge yarn. The yarn blends rayon for a cool, liquid hand with polyester for structure and spandex for recovery. It feels smooth against bare skin and holds its shape through hours of sitting without bagging at the knees.
  • Cold wash and flat dry. Wash this set in cool water on a gentle cycle, using a mesh bag to protect the front buttons. Lay both pieces flat on a towel to dry so the knit retains its original length and waistband elasticity.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
