Halter Tops for Women Date Night Outfits

We knit this halter with a crossover neckline that sits open across the chest and shoulders. The body is cut loose and roomy, dropping straight down to a long hem below the knee. The nutmeg shade brings a warm, earthy tone to the smooth stitch work.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crossover halter neck. The front panels cross over the chest to form an open halter line. It leaves the shoulders bare while keeping a clean, tidy edge that lies flat against the collarbone without pulling or bunching.
  • Long straight cut. We gave this top a generous cut that hangs away from the waist and hips. The hem falls long toward the lower leg, giving the fine gauge knit plenty of room to move as you walk.
  • Smooth warm weather yarn. Knitted from a fine blend of viscose, polyester, and nylon. The yarn feels cool to the touch, holds a light natural stretch, and drapes fluidly without adding bulk under an open front jacket or summer cardigan.
  • Washing and flat drying. Hand wash in cold water or run on a gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. Avoid bleach. Reshape the crossover front and lay the knit flat on a towel to dry so the long hem keeps its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
